Home/School Partnership

We very much recognise that the part that parents play in their child’s education is vital. Children’s development and their confidence in themselves and their ability is supported greatly by your interest and encouragement. We work to achieve a situation where, through honesty and understanding, parents and teachers can share views of your children, which will benefit their development and progress. We further hope that by seeing us working together as partners, the children will become happier and more secure in school.

From our first contacts with parents of Foundation stage children we want them to know how much we value their close involvement with the school. The accessibility of all staff ensures that together we share in the children’s development as they go through the school. This home/school dialogue is maintained through regular formal and informal contacts, which include our home/school agreement, parent consultations and annual reports. We value the support of parental help in school and at home, and also through the work of the Friends of Queen’s Dyke School. Parents are invited to share in school celebrations, including class assemblies.

There is a wide variety of ways in which parents invaluably support us in school. These include working in class with individuals or a small group, taking recorder groups, running extra-curricular clubs, and helping with educational visits.

Homework
All children are given some form of work to do at home during the week. For younger children this takes the form of reading and remembering letters and words, sharing books at home with parents and siblings, and finding things linked to a topic to take into school.

Older children are expected to complete maths and literacy homework, in addition to reading books and completing reading journals.
