School Rules and SanctionsIn seeing the school as a community, we seek to develop children's social skills and expect them to act in a courteous and considerate way, treating others in a way that they would like to be treated themselves. Rules and boundaries are clearly and consistently set in the interest of creating a safe, happy and caring environment in which children work and play together and where any form of bullying is not tolerated. In cases where children do not live up to our expectations, whether concerning their work or treatment of others in the school, it is made clear that their behaviour will not be tolerated. In most cases the teacher will deal with the matter immediately and this is usually sufficient. At other times, if the behaviour continues and is particularly unacceptable, the SENCO, senior teacher or Headteacher may become involved and sanctions would involve working alone, doing extra work at break or lunchtime, or withdrawal from certain activities. On the rare occasions that a serious or persistent problem occurs, the Headteacher would discuss the matter with the child's parents. Where necessary we have a system of record and contract sheets to monitor children’s behaviour. The County Council Disciplinary Guidelines on exclusion would be followed should this ever become necessary, with parents kept fully informed. Behavior policy and Anti-bullying policy are available from the school.Attendance and Behaviour Rates of Authorised and Unauthorised absence Our annual DCSF absence return for 2009/10 was based on 236 pupils of compulsory school age who were in the school at any time. The percentage of sessions missed through authorised absence is 4.2% and unauthorised absence 0.3%. Absence from school It is appreciated when parents let us know as soon as possible the cause of their child’s absence. Please telephone or call in to the school office on the first morning of the absence. Leave of absence for holidays has to be applied for, and forms are available in the school office. Time off in term time is not a right, and a maximum of 10 days can be authorised. Time off in excess of this, or not applied for in advance, counts as unauthorised absence. When a child is absent, and no reason has been given, this also counts as unauthorised absence. While we appreciate it can sometimes be difficult to decide if a child needs to stay at home, it is best if they do not come to school if they are unwell. School Meals A choice of hot meal or baguette option is provided from our small servery. Lunches have to be pre-ordered by the previous Thursday’s registration, using the relevant slip stating choice of meal with the correct money for the week (currently £2.10 per day). Details about free school meals are available from the school office. |
